Steps to connect without the app
Step 1
Go to Settings, top right on the home screen (swipe down)
Step 2
Go to Wi-Fi networks, under ‘Connections’ or ‘Internet’
Step 3
Tap the publicroam wifi network. You will see a settings screen.
Step 4
Choose the following settings (scroll down):
EAP method: PEAP
Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPv2
CA certificate: Do not validate / Unspecified / System certificates
Go to ‘Installing the certificate’.
Identity: Username*
Password: Password*
Anonymous identity: Leave empty
* Your publicroam login details (see SMS or in the app)
Step 5
Tap Connect
You are now connected

Installing the certificate on Android
On Android you can install the certificate yourself to ensure a more secure connection. This is not necessary if you use the publicroam mobile app. Not using the app? Then follow the steps below.
Make your choice:
– My phone has Android 10 or lower
– My phone has Android 11 or higher
Android 10 or lower: installing the certificate
Step 1
Open this link on your Android device (in your browser):
Step 2
Tap Download (and tap Download again if prompted)
Step 3
The certificate is downloaded. If it doesn’t open automatically, tap Open file.
Step 4
Used for, choose: Wi-Fi
Tap OK
Step 5
Go back to Wi-Fi settings. Select the ‘publicroam’ wifi network and press and hold briefly. A menu appears. Choose Manage network settings.
Choose ‘Remove network’ or ‘Forget’. Then go to ‘Connect to wifi after installing the certificate’.
Enter:

Tap Save
You now have a more secure connection

Android 11 or higher: installing the certificate
Step 1
Open this link on your Android device (in your browser):
publicroam.nl/certificate-latest
Step 2
Tap Download and then Open. Then close.
Step 3
Install the certificate as follows:
- Go to Settings on your device
- Tap Security
- Scroll down and tap Advanced
- Tap Encryption & credentials
- Tap Install a certificate
- Tap Wi-Fi certificate
- Select the publicroam certificate (pr-nl5.cer)
- Enter as certificate name: publicroam
- Tap OK
The certificate is now installed. Now follow the steps below to connect your device to wifi.
Connect to wifi after the certificate has been installed
You can only follow these steps if the certificate is already installed. Don’t have a certificate yet? First go to ‘Installing the certificate’.
Step 1
Go to Settings, top right on the home screen (swipe down)

Go to Wi-Fi networks, under ‘Connections’ or ‘Internet’
Step 3
Tap the publicroam wifi network. You will see a settings screen.
Tap ‘publicroam’ and press and hold briefly. Choose ‘Manage network’ and go to Step 4 below. Don’t have this option? Choose ‘Remove network’ or ‘Forget’ and tap the ‘publicroam’ wifi network again.
Enter:

Choose the following settings (scroll down):
EAP method: PEAP
Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPv2
CA certificate: publicroam
Choose ‘Do not validate’ or ‘System certificates’. If you can’t select this, try installing the certificate again.
Identity: Username*
Password: Password*
Anonymous identity: Leave empty
* Your publicroam login details (see SMS or in the app)
Step 5
Tap Connect
You are now connected
